Major Youth Soccer Tournament Moving to Columbia County
The Bulls Soccer Club are pleased to announce that their 25th annual fall soccer tournament will be now played in Columbia County at Blanchard Woods Park, Lakeside Park and Patriots Park on August 29th and 30th, 2020.
The Columbia County Cup, formerly the Aiken Cup, is made possible by the addition of field space at both Patriots Park and the new Lakeside Park. “We are a Columbia County based soccer club and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the 25th edition of our event home to Columbia County,” said the Bulls Soccer Club Director of Coaching, Andrew Hammer. “We want to thank the county for partnering with us and putting a priority on additional field space so this move could be made possible. Our families and players are excited and we can’t wait to show the southeast what Columbia County has to offer.”
The tournament has traditionally brought in 150-200 youth soccer teams from all over the southeast, and even hosted teams from Canada, for the weekend long tournament.
“As we were planning the expansion of Patriots Park and new Lakeside Park, one of our first goals was to bring this tournament home to Columbia County,” said Community & Leisure Services Director John Luton. “These teams will be staying in Columbia County hotels, spending money with our businesses and learning about the wonderful amenities that we offer. The economic impact our community will see from this event exactly the reason we have put a team together to focus on sports tourism for our county.”
The annual event takes place the last full weekend in August and is looking forward to growing due to its new location. “We are thankful for what the Aiken community provided us these last 24 years,” said Hammer, “our new location puts us directly off of Interstate 20 and allows us to reach even more clubs in the southeast. In addition, the number of hotel properties in Columbia County continues to grow and the quality of these properties are second-to-none. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”
