A Weekly Blog From Bulls Rush DOC Andrew Hammer
Director of Coaching Blog – Week 1
Why We Do What We Do at Bulls Rush FC
Welcome to the first edition of the Bulls Rush FC Director of Coaching Blog.
My goal with this weekly blog is simple:
To give coaches, players, and families a clearer look into how we think, why we do what we do, and where we are going as a club.
Youth soccer can be loud. There are rankings, leagues, opinions, social media noise, and constant pressure to chase short-term results.
At Bulls Rush FC, we are committed to something deeper.
Player-First. Always.
Everything we do starts with the player.
That means:
- Development before outcomes
- Learning before winning
- Confidence before fear
- Long-term growth before short-term gratification
Winning matters — and we compete every time we step on the field — but winning is the result of development, not the goal of development.
Our job as coaches is not to win games at 10, 12, or even 15 years old.
Our job is to
prepare players for the next level, whatever that next level may be — high school, college, or simply a lifelong love of the game.
Coaches Matter More Than Systems
At Bulls Rush FC, we believe great environments create great players.
That starts with coaches who:
- Care deeply about kids
- Are committed to learning and growing
- Create sessions that are engaging, challenging, and age-appropriate
- Teach players how to think, not just what to do
Formations will change.
Game models will evolve.
But the impact of a great coach lasts a lifetime.
That’s why we invest heavily in coach education, mentorship, and alignment — because better coaches create better player experiences.
Adaptability Is a Skill
Weather changes.
Space changes.
Numbers change.
Confidence changes.
The best coaches adapt.
Whether it’s training in tight spaces, adjusting a session on the fly, or going back to basics when needed, adaptability is a core coaching skill — and one we value highly at Bulls Rush FC.
Development is not linear, and neither is coaching.
More Than Soccer
At the end of the day, we are developing people — not just players.
We want our athletes to leave Bulls Rush FC with:
- Confidence
- Resilience
- Accountability
- Respect
- A growth mindset
If soccer ends tomorrow (and for most players it eventually will), the lessons learned here should continue to serve them for the rest of their lives.
Looking Ahead
This weekly blog will touch on:
- Player development themes
- Coach education insights
- Training concepts
- Club alignment and decisions
- Leadership and mindset
- How we measure success at Bulls Rush FC
My hope is that this becomes a window into our why, not just our what.
Thank you for trusting us with your players, your time, and your energy.
Let’s keep building — together.
